So that we're not flooding the actual draft threads with random crapola. Flaming, criticism, praise [like that's ever done here ]...let it be here. That be all. 29 minutes and counting until official clocks starts...and we're damn near through the second round! Who knew?!

I like to give credit where it's due.
Props to Spin for running a smooth running league.
Props to Russ for being so fucking funny.
Props to Len for joining the "Peck doesn't know shit about football" attack.

How did I know this was going to happen... As soon as we start the "official" draft, the pace slows to a standstill...

I just coordinated a 14 team, 24 round draft via email that took less than 10 days (and one of the participants lives in Spain)... It wasn't hard, just a lot of people leaving 2-3 person lists with somebody else in the draft in case they aren't around when it's time to pick.
I *WILL* suggest that everyone in the league gives Spinler their cell phone number (Spin already has a few #s, and I gave Lester my number back in '05), so Spin or Lester can send you a quick text message when it's your turn to pick.
If you'd rather not, that's totally cool...but I guarantee it'll speed this thing up
EDIT: it didn't even occur to me that Len's mom probably wouldn't appreciate a bunch of fantasy baseball text messages on the cell phone she pays for...so maybe we need to work out a different strategy for him

Props to Lester for admitting that Peck knows spit about football. Or any sport for that matter. Few things before I go on... Oh and major props to Spin for running the best league I've been in. Well organized and the draft clock started with us well into Round 2. That's gotta be a record. A) Indy gave up 111 yards in the Super Bowl. Now granted we know Indy held the ball longer [HUGE shock], but considering how they averaged more than 5.8 a carry...that's saying something [which I don't think Lester's gonna get until next year, when Indy goes flop in their quest to repeat. There's a reason it's only been done four times over the past 20 years]. B) Peck doesn't know spit about football and continues to act like he does. I've admitted when I've been wrong, Peck for lack of a better way of putting this...is too stupid to acknowledge such a thing proving ignorance truly is bliss. C) As I'm sure the Colts will figure out next year, it's a much different thing to go from chasing a title to being chased. How will Peyton handle being "Da Man"? How will Dungy adjust to life now that every eye in the league's on his team? Will that run D figure out how not to let such mastadons as Fred Taylor, Maurice Jones-Drew and Ron Dayne from making them look like they're running in sand? The Pats will be back and they'll be hungrier. I gotta believe as much as I don't like them, the Steelers won't fall into oblivion. If the Bengals can keep the rest of their roster from being locked up, they'll be back in contention. Ditto for the Ravens. As I said before, they will NOT repeat. Especially if Freeney, Harper and Doss decide to prove the age old adage true, you know... "Money talks, everything else runs the marathon." As far as you go Peck...with smack like yours, I can see why Eddie Heartbreak was such a major force when the NWC was around and kicking. Don't quit your day job son. And I'll send my number to Spinler later today, but leave actual voicemail. I don't do "Dummy Technology". Dummy Technology = Text Messaging

I blame you! You knew you were coming up after Len's two picks, leave a list! Guzz I love how everytime somebody makes a pick on the board, the next team up is listed as being online on the main page, yet as soon as the pick is made, they disappear. Where did you go Guzz? You were still here after I made my pick. And since you said I needed a list...where's yours??? -Spin "Thought about giving props to himself for a great league, but decided it would make him look like TO"

I don't think the Bengals have to worry about locking up their players...

Len, Len, Len...we're obviously the Sean Salisbury/John Clayton of the Commons. You being Clayton (stat & media geek of football) and me being Salisbury (you know, the guy who actually played).
While I can't argue with you on the Colts D - I mean if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck... - but I will throw this in their defense. They gelled enough to win the SB, so that HAS to speak to some sort of development. Will they be better next year? Yes, they have to be, there is no logical reason they won't. Why?
1. POTENTIAL for a full season from Bob Sanders. This alone will improve the run D.
2. The mixture of Corey Simon and Booger McFarland on the D line. Even if Simon doesn't return the return of Monte Reggor will boost the D-Line.
3. The move of Rob Morris to strong side LB greatly improves the run. The Colts biggest weakness in terms of run D is their middle LB...Gary Brackett...someone who will probably not be on the squad next year.
Now this one might be hard to swallow but, speaking from my experiences in athletics...
4. The Colts know what they need to do on D to win.
When you know you have the ability to do something, when you've done it before and when you SEE the results of such action then it becomes much easier to repeat. I'm not saying the Colts will turn into the Bears on D but they won't give up 100+ yds to Ron Dayne again.
I don't think the fact that Manning and the Colts being champions will hinder their play. Sure, teams will be watching them but most defenses have been watching them for the past five years. That happens when you have the best offense...teams watch you. If you can stop the best offense then you can apply those ideas to other teams. At first it was take away the deep ball and Peyton will throw INTs or get frustrated, next it was blitz the shit out of him...he has defeated all of that. Now he's content with throwing the short routes and check downs (much to his WRs chagrin) to pick up yardage.
The thing that sets Manning and Brady apart from other QBs is that they have the ability to adjust and change their game. Sure, it took Manning longer to do it but now that he's had a taste of victory you know he's going to keep at it. He's too smart to fall into the old traps.
While you might be right about motivation for guys like Freeney and Harper you should be careful with those kind of comments. That's more of a shot at their character, not their talent. Considering how they got ripped into during the year, then toughed up to win the SB...I'd say it could happen but you've got to admit they can just as easily keep their game that high.
Lastly...it takes more balls to predict a back-to-back then to say they won't repeat! I agree with ya on the Pats, all they need are the WRs and they'll be scary good. Pittsburgh will be interesting to see under Tomlin, I'm not afraid of Baltimore because of their age and total inability to grasp offense.
Cincy, though, isn't far off but they've got two holes.
1. Their defense resembles the Colts of 2002. In fact, that's what I compare them to.
2. Their "team" is a group of individuals, not a team. Palmer is pissed at his squad, 85 is more concerned with his catches then winning games and a majority of the team is focused on street cred compared to playing...hence the prison record. If they can get over the "I guy" hump then they will be a serious force to be contended with.
Question for ya Len...thoughts on your boy Tom Coughlin being brought back?

I can best sum up my thoughts on Cough-lin by saying this...
Marty with the Giants this year would've ensured New York never left New Jersey until the Super Bowl or their collapse...but I digress. If you blindfolded me and asked me to take a coaching taste test of sorts, Martyball or Coughlin Standard Time [if you're 5 minutes early, you're really 10 minutes late]... I'll take Martyball any day of the week and 8 times on Sunday. Yes, even in the damn playoffs because here's the thing that I've learned over the past seven years in various sports.
Every dog EVENTUALLY has its day. Every coach in almost every major sport, even in college, that's been told they couldn't win "the big one" has.
Roy Williams...well, had to leave Lawrence but finally did it in Durham. Bill Cowher FINALLY won one [I'm sure Lester's chuckling about this now] and since I mention it... Tony Dungy. Nice guys don't always finish last. Tony LaRussa proved he didn't need the Roid Brothers to win a World Series. Just play a team whose pitching staff can handle routine throws to the bag, bought way too much stock into its own hype and voila. World Series Champions. Urban Meyer...okay, he won with Ron Zook's players. I don't think anyone [myself majorly, up until they announced the game] thought this would happen.
That said, I believe Marty's going to get one eventually. Maybe the year after next, if he lands in the right place [New York, I'm gonna take next month to analyze Reese and hope he's not a blacker GM equivalent of Danny Ferry in a football sense] I think Coughlin's done after this year, if Reese has two functional halves of his brain working at once. Eli cannot have a bad season this year, Peyton winning just turned the volume up incredibly loud for the younger Manning. Winning isn't enough. It's either Super Bowl or bust but what I find ironic is, in 2008, it'll be the first time you've got a market on big name coaching free agents. Marty's doing the ESPN thing and Cowher's on CBS for a year.
Oh, ain't this a kick? Only a season after going 14-2, one coaching move has all but removed San Diego from any and all Super Bowl talk. That's sad. Oh and as for the Salisbury/Clayton analogy [funny because I wear glasses], Salisbury didn't exactly blow people's minds when he played. He was a bench warmer who's done better away from the game than he did playing it.
Fire Coughlin. That is all. No, one more thing.
Mets in 07. Wright = MVP.

Psh...I walked on to a JUCO team...I had skills!
I agree with ya on the Giants, though. I mean Coughlin is a joke and if there is one thing Marty ball does (with a solid QB) it is produce a productive and efficient offense. One thing people don't realize is that when Marty was losing all those playoff games it was to the Raiders and Broncos when he was with the Chiefs. Back in the 90's those teams were pretty damn good.
Eli will develop IF (and only if) Gilbride comes with a better offense. I really think Coughlin steals his plays from Madden football. He was such an idiot in coaching offense that he ran off Tiki Barber and that set you guys back a season or two. I don't think Jacobs can be the man because of his lack of speed and hands....but I've been wrong before.

The Giants had more than enough talent to win the NFC last season. I know they had more than enough in the tank to beat friggin' Philly in that Wild Card game. In terms of Gilbride...here's my most ingrained football memory of Kevin Gilbride.
Getting sucker punched on national television by Buddy Ryan in Houston. Tiki going off to do the national television thing reminds me of Barry leaving Detroit because like in Detroit, he saw the physical punishment wasn't worth being on a team that's just chasing its proverbial tail. If you ain't playing for first...you know the rest. As for Jacobs, he's a less hyped version of Ron Dayne and I think the Giants know this, as they appear to be trying to get "Whatchu Talkin' Bout" Willis McGahee. Jacobs is what I like to call your "3 Yards And A Ton of Dust" back. He's not your "carry us to the Promised Land" guy...at least I don't get that feel about him watching his stuff a year ago.
At least the Jets proved me wrong in a major way last season and thank the Football Gods that they're letting Patrick Pansy walk tomorrow. Here's hoping the Jets take the next step towards reclaiming the East from Belichick and the Patriots.
Belichick = The Emperor Brady = Darth Vader Patriots = The Sith

Billster can get his fact-checkers to correct me if I'm incorrect about that one.

In the midst of calling me a dumb spit who knows nothing about sports, Peck must've forgot the part where Jacobs transferred to Southern Illinois because he didn't want to sit behind Cadillac and Ronnie Brown on the depth chart. Pot calling the kettle black... You never cease to amaze me with your stupidity Peckerwood.

I understand why he left (he's a nice guy, btw)...but he played at Auburn, and he's going to be yet another example of an Auburn runningback tearing up the NFL, even if Len thinks he's a classic "3 yards and a ton of dust" back (although the 4.52 forty yard dash he ran at the NFL Combine and the 4.45 I personally saw him run when he reported to AU both make that argument sound like it came from somebody whose only glimpse of Brandon Jacobs running the football came from the XBox).
BTW, I'm 100% sure that Len had to double check where he went to college before correcting me, simply because you don't actually watch football (let alone college football).
