With the draft up and rolling, save for a few of you idiots NOT leaving lists and holding things up for like 8 hours (cough Guzz cough), teams are starting to develop.
Let's take a look at how I've got the thing scored, shall we?
Best Pick: Major points to Ron, who's formed the best backfield in the league by grabbing Auburn standout Rudi Johnson in the 2nd round to pair with Jamal Lewis, who somehow slipped to 14th in the first because people were taking guys like Donovan McNabb.
Once again, it should be a FEDERAL LAW that in order to play this hobby, you must have the NFL Sunday Ticket. If you're too much of a hebrew to actually plunk down the little extra cash it requires to watch the games, than you should really just go back to mowing the lawn and going shoe shopping on Sundays like you used to. Seriously, how the hell do you know who's good and who isn't? You check box scores and watch NFL Sunday Countdown? That's no way to live. That's just plain ***PATHETIC***.
Sorry...started ranting for a second. Anyways, I really like Russ's selection of Terrell Owens at 2.09. Don't read too much into this "turmoil" bullshit...Jeff Garcia hated the guy more than Chunky Soup ever could, and he was even more of a fantasy monster in San Francisco than he was when he got to Philly. Seriously, what's the worst that could happen? Is McNabb going to "teach TO a lesson" by not throwing to him, instead taking his chances with Pinkston and Greg Lewis? Yeah, that'll last about 7 minutes. If the Eagles are going to win 8 games this year, they'll need TO to be the dominant player he was last year. I project 1650 and 17 for the guy. No shit.
Worst pick: As bad as the selections of Torry Holt, Javon Walker, and Disabled List Fred Taylor (who's more allergic to touchdowns than ever before, making him REEEEEALLY valuable in this league) were...and man oh man were they horrific...I can't believe somebody actually took Matt Hasselbeck with the 7th pick in the 2nd round. Nice work. I haven't checked the scoring lately, but did Lester add a point for every time a WR drops your pass? Maybe he throws in 5 points every time you cry like a little bitch because of it? There's no way somebody who actually watches the Seahawks games thinks Matt Hasselbeck will be anything more than a fringe top-10 guy this year. I'd REALLY like to hear a justification for taking him over Owens. I know he's your boy, Billster...but even you know that he sorta sucks. I'm pretty sure there are at least 20 guys availible at that point I'd have taken over Hasselbeck (I could list all of them if you really pressed me). Just a wretched pick...not only the worst one of this draft, but maybe the worst one of any draft. Elgin Baylor, the GM of the Clippers just called me, and even HE didn't understand it.
Weirdest pick: I suppose Javon Walker is the obvious one here. Holdout WR in a system where it's been proven that any scrub idiot off the street can step in and become a 1000 yard reciever (Antonio Freeman, Robert Brooks, and Donald Driver all sulk in silent agreement), and now he's on Favre's bad side. It's not like Owens, where TO has to get the ball or the team isn't going to do anything. Favre has no need to keep Walker happy. In fact, I could see Favre being a dick and making sure that Driver, Ferguson, and Franks all get even more passes tossed their way, just because Walker and his idiot agent went and pissed him off. I could be wrong and Walker could go out there and torch to the tune of 1300/10 like he did last year...but I think we're looking at a 900/6 underachieving season.
Sleeper Pick: Remember when Marshall Faulk was the most dominant player in the NFL? People give Mike Martz shit for his failure to run the football, but it's feasible that he didn't run the football because he hasn't had a real runningback since Faulk's injury in 2001. Faulk hasn't been the same, and there have been guys named Trung Candidate and Lamar Gordon that have tried to step in, to no avail. There's a reason they took a 230 pound monster from Oregon State in the 2004 draft, and I think it's because they DO want to get more balanced on offense. I think Billster may have just picked up a guy who's going to be a universal top 6 pick in fantasy drafts next year, and a guy who's going to absolutely maul at the goal line. I'm going with 1700 total yds and 14 touchdowns for Stephen Jackson (provided he can stay healthy), giving Billster one of the best picks in the draft so far.
Let's get round 3 done! I'm FEELING IT!
