Since the baseball season is closing in by the day, I thought I would update everybody as to the rules and regulations regarding the Commons Baseball Keeper League. I am using a lot of the information from my previous post, since I haven't heard anything but positive comments regarding the procedures. The draft will start Wednesday, February 28th on the Commons Web Board (Russ - can you set up a page for this or give me access to do it myself?). I realize that this is later than years in the past, but if everybody pays attention, this really shouldn't take more than 2 weeks to complete. Expect the time for picks to be similar to those from previous draft (6-8 hrs for early round picks, and 4-6 for later picks). Here goes with the rules.
I would like to keep the league to 12 teams, that way the draft doesn't last forever and to allow for strong competition between the teams. However, if there is genuine interest from more than 12 people, then I will expand it, but we need to have an even number, since it is a head-2-head league.
Please respond to this post if you are interested in participating in this league. This way I can get the league information to those interested once Yahoo opens up registration. I will also post final settings and anything else relevant once the league is set-up.
Any questions - feel free to hit me up via AIM (spindoctor02), Yahoo IM (spindoctor02) or via e-mail (spindoctor02@gmail.com).
Thanks-

P.S. Quite possibly the longest and most thorough post in a long time... ...Let's rock and roll!!!
- 25 Round Player draft - 9 hitters (C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, LF, CF, RF, Util), 8 Pitchers (SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P) and 8 Bench spots (roster will include 2 DL spots).
- This will be a 6X6 Head-2-Head league with the following statistical categories:
- Hitters: Runs, Home Runs, Stolen Bases, RBI's, Avg., and OPS (if Yahoo allows it)
- Pitchers: Wins, Saves, Holds, ERA, K's, WHIP
- Hitters: Runs, Home Runs, Stolen Bases, RBI's, Avg., and OPS (if Yahoo allows it)
- 4 total keeper protections are available per team: 2 hitters and 2 pitchers, you must keep one hitter and one pitcher.
- Keeper Rules:
- If the player was selected (by any team) in the initial draft, keeping that player will result in forfeiting the pick in the corresponding round selected. Example: Johan Santana was selected in the 1st round, therefore, selecting him as one of your protections results in forfeiting your 1st round pick in the following season.
- If the player selected for protection was acquired via trade and was taken in the same round as another one of your protections, you lose that rounds pick along with the following rounds selection. Example: Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer were both taken in the 3rd round, and you wanted to keep both players, you would forfeit your 3rd and 4th round selections to keep them.
- If you acquire a player via the waiver wire that wasn't originally drafted, keeping that player will result in forfeiting the pick in the round corresponding to the players season ending positional fantasy ranking. Example: Boof Bonser goes undrafted, but you picked him up off the waiver wire and you wanted to keep him. He finishes the season ranked 18th among SP, therefore costs an 18th round selection to keep.
- If the player isn't ranked in the top 25, the 25th round pick is forfeited.
- If this results in multiple picks from the same round, apply rule #2 to the situation.
- If the player isn't ranked in the top 25, the 25th round pick is forfeited.
- If the player was selected (by any team) in the initial draft, keeping that player will result in forfeiting the pick in the corresponding round selected. Example: Johan Santana was selected in the 1st round, therefore, selecting him as one of your protections results in forfeiting your 1st round pick in the following season.
